Common Senses for Common Spaces (CSCS), returns with another unique interfaith forum. The CSCS dialogue series seeks to facilitate exchanges and expand common spaces to deepen mutual understanding and appreciation, hence respect and trust. In the spirit of the Hungry Ghost Festival, as we approach a month filled with smoke, we bring to you Holy Smoke!which delves into the uses and symbolism of incense in various religions. Religious or spiritual practices involving incense originates in antiquity. From Europe to Asia, and across the Pacific, subscribers of faiths globally believe that incense fumes mark prayer, respect or sacrifice to the heavens, deities or ancestors. While incense fumes act as a purifying and soothing element in faith, it is sensed as a polluting element and discomfort to some. ‘Holy Smoke!’ discusses the ‘Senses and Spirituality’ of incense burning and offerings across communities. We seek the privilege of your presence, to join host Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman, Mayor of South East District and Senior Minister of State for Defence and Foreign Affairs, at the interfaith gathering.
