Detention Of Two Self-Radicalised Singaporean Under the Internal Security Act In two separate cases, Singaporeans Muhammad Shamin bin Mohamed Sidek (Shamin) and Muhammad Harith Jailani (Harith) were detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) in August 2015 for their involvement in terrorism-related activities. Investigations showed that they had harboured the intention to make their way to Syria to join the terrorist group Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and engage in violence there.

Singapore’s champions for racial and religious harmony receive honours at inaugural awards night
 
The inaugural Inter-Racial and Religious Confidence Circles (IRCCs) Awards Night 2015 today recognises outstanding IRCC members, initiatives and stakeholders who have made significant contributions to promote racial and religious harmony in Singapore. These national-level awards were presented today by Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong to nine winners across three categories.

The IRCCs seek to build trust and good relations between peoples of different communities in Singapore. We will not let the actions of two misguided individuals sow distrust and harm our social cohesion. The threat of terrorism is real and affects everyone in Singapore. All communities must stand together to look after each other, watch out for another, and help keep Singapore safe and cohesive.
